VA Program Eligibility

  • Occupy the property as a primary residence.
  • Complete Homebuyer Education and Counseling course and obtain a certificate of completion.
  • Present a valid certificate of eligibility per VA guidelines.

Conventional Program Eligibility

CalHFA  borrowers must complete Homebuyer Education and Counseling course and obtain a certificate of completion through an eligible homebuyer counseling  organization.

CalPLUS Conventional Program Eligibility

  • Occupy the property as a primary residence.
  • Complete Homebuyer Education and Counseling course and obtain a certificate of completion.
     

FHA Program Eligibility

  • Occupy the property as a primary residence.
  • Complete Homebuyer Education and Counseling course and obtain a certificate of completion.

Homebuyer Education Requirement

Homebuyer education and counseling is critical to the success and happiness of a homeowner. A Homebuyer Education and Counseling course is required for first-time homebuyers enrolled in a CalHFA program.

Only one occupying first-time borrower on each loan transaction is required to take this course.

eHome's eight-hour Homebuyer Education and Counseling course is the only online course accepted by CalHFA.

In-Person

Face-to-face Homebuyer Education and Counseling can be completed through NeighborWorks America or any HUD-Approved Housing Counseling Agency (fees vary by agency).
